Birdies

This is the original version of the Bird Cage Page. These pictures will be moved to the searchable page sometime soon.

Here's a picture of my bird Chilipepper and a Penguin (of sorts). Chili is a male Red Lored Amazon parrot (also known as a Yellow Cheeked Amazon). There are more pictures of Chili at the end of this list.

This is my bird Chilipepper performing a trick, showing his wings when I say "Wingies." He seems to be very proud of this behavior.

4-picture sequence of Chili learning to be a mountain climber. Chili started playing with the cord from the blinds next to his cage, when all of a sudden, he just "jumped." His first expression looked like he was thinking, "Maybe I should have thought this through." But he quickly mastered the technique enough to show off a bit. I learned a lesson though: he could have gotten tangled up and hurt, so the cord is now in a different location.

This is an xray of Chilipepper. Chili got sick in the spring of 1995 and in order to diagnose his illness, the vet took some xrays. (Turns out, Chili had contracted bacterial hepatitis; it took an enadoscoppy to determine this. He recovered just fine). (picture size 119k)

Here we see Ziggy taking a bath. Ziggy is a Quaker parrot, owned by Allan Graves (agraves@bbs.mpcs.com) Ziggy and his cagemates have their own web page.

Here we have Riley, a Blue Front Amazon, belonging to Beth Migicovsky (kintact@gig.net). Says Beth: "As you can tell Riley is extremely photogenic and quite the character. Lemme know if this works!!!!" Well Beth, it works! Thanks for the contribution.

This is a photo of another Red Lored Amazon, Laretia, who belongs to Michele Caprez (Lynn157503@aol.com). Laretia is eating an onion ring which she loves. This photo is very cute: 3 baby Red Lored Amazons. The bird in the middle is Michele's, though she doesn't have it yet. Michele is still trying to decide on a name (maybe readers of the Bird Cage Page can help her choose one).

This is Conyr, a 1-year-old male sun conure (6 months old in photo) that belongs to Howard, who is a friend of Josef Stefanon (Stefanon@CAMPUS.PAPY.basf-corp.com). Conyr lives in Jersey City, NJ. Here he is in his back yard doing what he likes best to do, watching the day go by.

This is Casey, the Goffin's Cockatoo, owned by Lori Roter (LROTER@SSBPOST.env.gov.bc.ca). The picture was taken in Long Beach, British Columbia. Lori says, "As all parrot owners, I am really proud of my little devil. " My personal opinion? I think Casey is a very handsome bird.

This is a male military macaw, named Jean-Claude, preening himself. He is a real character! He belongs to David Van Densen (LaganLove@aol.com). This is a picture of David Van Densen's female Military macaw Jezebel. She is a very sweet bird. She wants to start a family, but her boyfriend Jean-Claude isn't so interested. David will keep us updated on their progress!

Here's a picture of Roxie, a blue and gold Macaw, and Cheyenne, a greenwing Macaw, as well as their owners, Cody and BJ Wallace. Cody and BJ have a musical act for children which teaches about the plight of the rain forests. Roxie and Cheyenne are the stars of the show. I have their cassette tape, and it's really great. I wish I could catch their show; maybe on my next business trip back east. Another photo of Roxie and Cheyenne, having fun.

These are two pictures of Verdi, a Golden-Capped Conure of unknown sex, 1 year old. He belongs to Andy Hofle (hof@rmii.com). Says Andy: "He's the sweetest bird I've ever seen in my life. He loves to take showers, burrow in blankets, and lay on his back and wiggle his feet while I tickle his belly!"

Here is Simon, a Red Lored Amazon belonging to Chuck Vaughn (aa6g@best.com). Here he's playing his favorite game: attack the flyswatter. "Old picture of Simon and me," says Chuck. He's licking the empty ice cream dish. Simon looks the same but the owner is older :-) ." (Editor's note: Simon may very well be related to Chilipepper: Chili would commit a felony for ice cream.) Old picture of Simon sending morse code on a keyer paddle.

This is a photo of Nikki B's (nikkib@whidbey.com) Meyers Parrot, Captain Hookbill. He is 4 months old in this picture and was recently DNA tested... She is anxiously awaiting the results but is under the impression that Captain is a male. He is a funny little guy that loves to play all day long... He's momma's baby! Also see Nikki's home page. This is Niki's husband Erik B. with their Blue and Gold macaw, Pelee. Pelee is 3 years old and a male. Pelee is a trouble maker that they could not live without! His favorite snack is Niki's wicker rocking chair! "Wondering why his tail is so short? We had to pull the whole thing out because he broke all of them playing on his 'jungle jim!'", she says.

Billie is owned by Jim Weber & John Wright (jimw@ligon.landstar.com) The picture was taken by a professional Photographer. Billie is a real camera ham. This is Lacy, a two year old female Umbrella Cockatoo belonging to Mike and Cindy Lea from Springfield Mo (mebear@ix.netcom.com) She is the sweetest pet they have ever owned and in this picture she is wondering what is that strange thing Mike is holding in front of his face (the camera).

This is Pepsi, a Red Collared Lorrikeet (Trichoglossus rubritorquis), who is owned by Peter and Kay Johnson of Hampton Park, Victoria, Australia (bonsai@netlink.net.au). In the picture we see Pepsi and Peter drinking coffee and working on the computer. (When Pepsi sits on his shoulder and Peter make typing mistakes Pepsi swears.) Pepsi's native habitat is extreme north Australia. He can whistle tunes (unrecogniseable at this stage), talks incessantly and swears too! Pepsi is a brilliant mimic of all kinds of bird calls as well as people made noises! He is also learning to dance. He loves loud rock music, pizza, sweets and pretty girls. This is a leading candidate for the cutest photo on the Bird Cage Page. This is Peter's three year old daughter - Leica (pronounced Leesa) feeding Pepsi Yoplait yogurt.

This is Piper, a Yellow-collared macaw. Piper's sex is unknown. Piper's owner is Jean Bond (bloom@gladstone.uoregon.edu)

Here is a male Jenday Conure named "Sunny." He was 4 months at the time of this picture. He is owned by Brian and Laura Kincaid from Wilson, North Carolina (grkincai@ecuvm.cis.ecu.edu). Here is another one of Sunny, this time at 5 months. He's already saying "hi" and "step-up" and, like other Jendays, acts as their watch bird in their townhouse. (Yes, but does he work for birdseed?)

Bayla is a nine-year-old Moluccan cockatoo who owns Kathy Sullivan (mcgyver6@hotmail.com). Bayla's favorite things in life are being petted and posing for the camera. MacGyver is a four-year-old Jenday conure who also thinks he(?) owns Kathy. He alternates between being watch bird and turning household items into bird toys.

This is Chilie Birdie. He was named after the town (Chili Verde-pronounced verdie) in John Water's "Lust in the Dust". He was just a fiesty little heathen when he was a baby. He's a male African brown head. He lives in Walnut Creek with Melissa Brown (melissa_brown@vaxine.ucsf.edu) and John Johnson, along with 3 conures and 2 poopatiels. He gets his picture sent because he's his mama's favorite.

This is Peko, a lovebird. He is kind of a mini-celebrity in Tokyo and has his own multimedia conference on RingoMUG, a BBS there. Peko goes outside, rides the subway and goes rollerblading on my shoulder. (No, his wings aren't clipped!) Mostly he likes reggae, so his owner, Victoria (fletcher@shrine.cyber.ad.jp) made the QuickTime movie "Dancing Parrot".

Charlie, on the left, is an Amazon of at least 10 years of age who came to Indina Beuche (indina.beuche@hamburg.netsurf.de) from Brazil by way of a sailor who treated the bird very badly. Now she (or he) is enjoying her life with the other two parrots of Indina's. Charlie is a very shy and very cute parrot, who likes only women and really fears men. Coconico, on the right, would appear to be Chilipepper's twin. Coconico, four years old, came from Nicaragua. He doesn't like women, so sometimes he gives Indina a hard time by biting her. But sometimes he is sooo friendly, as if he could never harm anybody. He prefers guys, but allows Indina to touch him and sits on her knees or shoulders. He still speaks some spanish words. This is Tango the gray parrot and Kuno the cat. Kuno is reported to be a great entertainer. Indina got Tango in Ghana 8 years ago. Here is a portrait of Indiana's shy and friendly Charly: "It relly shows all his softness - and his main interest - eating good food. I've changed the background to allow his colours to come out nicely... and I think, a blue sky fits better to an Amazon than a boring brown wall." -- Indina Beuche (indina.beuche@hamburg.netsurf.de)
